What is the Chorus of Hope?
The Chorus of Hope is a worship choir. It was started by Nicola, an experienced worship leader in February 2021 during the second lockdown because of the huge effect the pandemic was having on the way we worshipped in our churches. It ran for 10 consecutive weeks on Zoom. It represented the hope and glory of worship at a time when most of us were feeling isolated and disconnected.
The purpose of The Chorus of Hope was to bring together Christians from across the city of York who love to sing and worship through song, to help keep the joy of worship alive until a time that we could all meet again in person to sing and praise. It was also for people who might prefer to listen and be ministered to and/or occasionally join in. Everyone was welcome.
When Nicola started the Chorus of Hope, she secretly hoped that there would be no less than 10 participants, but to her absolute amazement and joy, The Chorus of Hope reached people from around 30 different churches locally, nationally, and internationally.
Throughout the 10 weeks, we explored a wide and varied repertoire of ‘through the ages’ worship songs which included ancient hymns, songs from the 80’s by Graham Kendrick & Dave Bilbrough etc and modern worship songs from Lou Fellingham, Bethel, Elevation Worship and Hillsong.
The 10th and final session of The Chorus of Hope took place on Easter Sunday 2021. What a cause for a celebration!
It is Nicola’s hope to rebuild The Chorus of Hope in-person – an exciting mission for the not-too-distant future!
